Charles Spurgeon – The Seal of the Covenant

Charles Spurgeon – The Seal of the Covenant

Spurgeon

“And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put My fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from Me”
Jeremiah 32:40

“These covenanted ones may be known by certain marks and evidences…

These people are known by having the fear of God in their hearts. Judge ye, whether it be so in your own case. This is the covenant promise-“I will put My fear in their hearts.” Do you fear the Lord? Do you reverence Jehovah, our God? Do you desire to please the Lord? Do you please Him? Do you desire to be like Him? Are you like Him in some humble degree? Do you feel ashamed when you see how sadly you come short; and does this make you hunger and thirst after righteousness? Is the gracious presence of God your heaven below? Is it all the heaven you desire above? If so, this fear of God in your heart is the seal of the covenant to you. Towards you God has thoughts of love which shall never change.”
~ C.H. Spurgeon

John Calvin – Repentance

John Calvin – Repentance

John Calvin

Repentance is the true turning of our life to God, a turning that arises from a pure and earnest fear of Him; and it consists in the mortification of the flesh and the renewing of the Spirit”
-John Calvin

Ω

“Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?”
Romans 2:4

The Fear of the Lord

Wisdom of the Ages

The Fear of the Lord.

“Only those who fear the Lord and keep His commandments have life with God. But as to those who do not keep His commandments, there is no life in them…. All, therefore, who despise Him and do not follow His commands deliver themselves to death, and each will be guilty of his own blood. But I implore you to obey His commands…”

The Shepherd of Hermas, (A Book written in 125 AD)

Wisdom of the Ages – John Bunyan

Wisdom of the Ages

John Bunyan

“The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom, and they that lack the beginning have neither middle nor end”
– John Bunyan

Wisdom of the Ages – J.C. Ryle

Wisdom of the Ages

JC Ryle

“Do nothing that you would not like God to see. Say nothing you would not like God to hear. Write nothing you would not like God to read. Go no place where you would not like God to find you. Read no book of which you would not like God to say, “Show it to Me.” Never spend your time in such a way that you would not like to have God say, “What are you doing?”
― J.C. Ryle

“Not with eyeservice, as menpleasers;
but as the servants of Christ,
doing the will of God from the heart”
Ephesians 6:6
