The Fall of a Nation

The Fall of a Nation

alexander-maclaren

“When the bonds which knit society to God are relaxed, selfishness soon becomes furious, and forcibly seizes what it lusts after, regardless of others’ rights. Sin saps the very foundations of social life, and makes men into tigers, more destructive to each other than wild beasts. All our grand modern schemes for the reformation of society will fail unless they begin with the reformation of the individual. To walk with God is the true way to make men gentle and pitying.”

Following Jesus

Following Jesus

“Jesus of Nazareth always comes asking disciples to follow him–not merely “accept him,” not merely “believe in him,” not merely “worship him,” but to follow him: one either follows Christ or one does not. There is no compartmentalization of the faith, no realm, no sphere, no business, no politic in which the lordship of Christ will be excluded. We either make him Lord of all lords, or we deny him as Lord of any.”

The Lighthouse

The Lighthouse

In the Holy Spirit, with whom I confide,

he restores my strength through each blustery ride.

His peace keeps my panic from the gale at bay

and his lighthouse breaks the night into crumbs of clay.

I will seize the perilous waters and never drown

because even the storm whispers, “His grace abounds!”
